What is an audit engagement?
An audit engagement is the main record for a defined audit or review job. It holds the engagement name, type, phase, and planning context.
In Beam Machine, you create this from the audit-engagements page through a modal form.
When do you use this?
Use this when a new audit or review job needs to be opened in the system before findings, working papers, plans, and monitoring can be tied to it.
If you skip engagement setup and start recording audit work elsewhere, the engagement trail becomes fragmented.
Where to find it
Primary path: Audit -> Engagements -> New Engagement
Alternative: Start at Audit, then drill into Engagements.

ā Checkpoint: You should now have the identity of the engagement and the audit type set.
- Enter Fiscal Year End.
- Enter Budget Hours if you know them.
- Review the values carefully.
- Click Create.
ā Checkpoint: The dialog should close and the engagements list should refresh.
- Confirm the new engagement appears in the table with a visible phase and year end.
If you need to advance the phase later
- Find the engagement in the table.
- Click Advance Phase.
- Confirm the action in the dialog.
The UI warns that phase advancement updates the engagement status and the audit trail. Treat it as a controlled step.
Common Questions & Issues
"I do not know the Client Entity ID"
Why this happens: The dialog expects the entity identifier, not just a friendly name.
Fix: Get the entity ID before opening the engagement dialog. Do not guess.
"The engagement was created but I cannot see it"
Why this happens: The page refresh may take a moment, or the search filter may hide it.
Fix: Refresh the page and clear any search text in the engagement table.
"Advance Phase looks risky"
Why this happens: It is a status-changing control action.
Fix: Confirm the engagement is ready for phase progression before you click it.
