Before You Start
- You should know the active entity.
- You should know whether your work is employment equity, skills, CCMA, disciplinary, or grievance related.
- Keep ../15-payroll-audit-controls-and-advisory.md open if you need the wider people and review view.
What is HR and Labour?
This module is where employee-related compliance and casework is tracked outside the standard pay run. On paper, this would be the EE file, training programme file, dispute register, disciplinary pack, and grievance register.
In Beam Machine, it lives under HR & Labour.
When do you use this?
Use this module when:
- employment equity reporting is due,
- skills programmes must be tracked,
- a CCMA dispute is opened,
- a disciplinary matter is underway,
- or a grievance must be logged and resolved.
If labour matters are managed informally, the business loses evidence and follow-up control.

Common Questions & Issues
"Should this be a payroll case or an HR case?"
Why this happens: Users confuse pay errors with labour or people-case workflows.
Fix: Use Payroll for pay-run and payroll queries. Use HR & Labour for employment equity, disciplinary, grievance, and dispute work.
"Where does B-BBEE fit?"
Why this happens: The HR page links to B-BBEE because people and skills data affect the scorecard.
Fix: Use Statutory -> B-BBEE for the actual B-BBEE scorecard workflow.
"This feels bigger than a simple admin page"
Why this happens: Labour workflows often carry legal and evidence implications.
Fix: Keep the record in the system, then use your firm HR and legal policy for the procedural detail beyond the page.
