Working in Statutory

This page shows you how to use the statutory and legal-entity governance module in Beam Machine.

Product: Beam Machine
Module: Statutory
Role: Company Secretary, Compliance Admin, Governance Reviewer
Difficulty: Intermediate
Time: 9 minutes first read
Last Updated: 2026-03-10
Version: Current Beam Machine app build in this repo

Before You Start

  • You should know the active entity.
  • You should know whether you are working on directors, shareholders, deadlines, resolutions, or B-BBEE.
  • Keep ../99-functionality-gap-map.md open if you need the current truth on deeper statutory-rule coverage.

What is Statutory?

This module is the legal-entity governance workspace. On paper, this would be the director register, shareholder register, deadline calendar, resolution file, and B-BBEE working file.

In Beam Machine, it lives under Statutory.

When do you use this?

Use this module when:

  • directors or shareholders change,
  • governance deadlines are due,
  • resolutions need tracking,
  • or B-BBEE status is being reviewed.

If statutory records drift, governance and compliance reporting becomes unreliable.

Where do you find it?

Primary path: Professional -> Statutory
Detailed routes:

  • /dashboard/statutory
  • /dashboard/statutory/directors
  • /dashboard/statutory/shareholders
  • /dashboard/statutory/deadlines
  • /dashboard/statutory/resolutions
  • /dashboard/statutory/bbbee

How to work in Statutory

Review the module home

  1. Open Statutory.
  2. Review pending deadlines, active directors, and total deadlines.
  3. Open the correct area for your task.

Work with governance records

  1. Open Directors to review director appointments and changes.
  2. Open Shareholders to review the shareholder register.
  3. Open Resolutions to work with board and shareholder resolutions.

Review compliance timing

  1. Open Deadlines.
  2. Review pending statutory dates before they become overdue.

Review B-BBEE work carefully

  1. Open B-BBEE Scorecard.
  2. Review the scorecard and the supporting data it depends on.

āœ… Checkpoint: You should now be in the correct governance area rather than mixing registers, deadlines, and scorecard work together.

Common Questions & Issues

"The B-BBEE screen is live. Does that mean the full rules library is done?"

Why this happens: The screen exists, but the broader checklist still marks a large amount of deeper B-BBEE rule coverage as missing or not fully mapped.

Fix: Use the live screen, but do not assume every documented business rule is already enforced end to end. Check ../99-functionality-gap-map.md.

"Where should I manage management-control or skills-related score inputs?"

Why this happens: Some B-BBEE inputs overlap with HR and Labour workflows.

Fix: Use Statutory for the scorecard-facing statutory workflow and HR & Labour for the underlying people and skills casework where applicable.
