Before You Start

  • You should know whether you are using the staff app or the customer portal.
  • You should know your main job in the system, for example accounting, payroll, fleet, or audit.
  • If you need to check whether a feature is really live, keep 99-functionality-gap-map.md open.

What is this docs set?

This is the main manual shelf for Beam Machine. It is the place you start when you need to understand what the system does, where screens live, and how to complete real work without guessing.

In Beam Machine, the docs are split into:

  • foundation pages,
  • module manuals,
  • deeper task manuals,
  • reporting manuals,
  • tax and compliance guides,
  • and control pages that show the live UI surface and the live-vs-planned gap.

When do you use this?

Use this page when you are new, when you are onboarding someone else, or when you are not sure which help page fits the job in front of you.

If you skip the index and jump straight into a random page, you usually waste time reading the wrong manual.

  2. Read 02-roles-and-access.md if you need to understand access and module visibility.
  3. Read 03-navigation-and-layout.md if the interface still feels confusing.
  4. Read getting-started.md if you are in your first week on the system.
  5. Open the module manual that matches your daily job:

Common Questions & Issues

"I don't know which page is for me"

Why this happens: Beam Machine covers many teams and not every user needs every manual.

Fix: Start with your job function, not the product menu. Finance users should start at 06-finance-core.md. Operations users should start at 07-operations.md. Payroll and HR users should start at 08-people-and-payroll.md.

"The docs mention a feature but I can't do it in my environment"

Why this happens: Some routes are visible while deeper behavior is still partial or planned.

Fix: Check 99-functionality-gap-map.md before treating that feature as fully delivered.
