Working in ESG

This page shows you how to use the ESG module for emissions, targets, and report review.

Product: Beam Machine
Module: ESG
Role: ESG Analyst, Compliance Reviewer, Management User
Difficulty: Intermediate
Time: 8 minutes first read
Last Updated: 2026-03-10
Version: Current Beam Machine app build in this repo

Before You Start

  • You should know the active entity.
  • You should know whether your job is emissions capture, target review, or report review.
  • Keep ../09-assurance-and-advisory.md open if you need the wider specialist-module view.

What is ESG?

This module is the environmental, social, and governance reporting workspace. On paper, this would be the emissions workbook, target tracker, and reporting pack.

In Beam Machine, it lives under ESG.

When do you use this?

Use this module when:

  • emissions data must be reviewed,
  • targets must be tracked,
  • or ESG reports must be checked before publication or review.

If the data is not maintained here, ESG reporting becomes difficult to defend.

Where do you find it?

Primary path: Professional -> ESG
Detailed routes:

  • /dashboard/esg
  • /dashboard/esg/emissions
  • /dashboard/esg/targets
  • /dashboard/esg/reports

How to work in ESG

  1. Open ESG.
  2. Review the cards for total emissions, active targets, reports generated, and materiality topics.
  3. Open the work area that matches your task.

Review emissions

  1. Open ESG -> Emissions.
  2. Review emission records and scope classification.
  3. Confirm whether the record belongs to Scope 1, Scope 2, or Scope 3 before relying on it.

Review targets

  1. Open ESG -> Targets.
  2. Review target status.
  3. Check whether the target is achieved, on track, at risk, or off track.

Review reports

  1. Open ESG -> Reports.
  2. Review report title, framework, period, total emissions, and status.
  3. Check whether the report is draft, in review, approved, or published.

āœ… Checkpoint: You should now know whether you are looking at raw ESG data, target tracking, or a report output.

Common Questions & Issues

"Can I publish a report just because it exists?"

Why this happens: A generated report may still be draft or in review.

Fix: Check the report status before treating it as final output.

"The module mentions materiality, but I cannot find every workflow"

Why this happens: The home page references broader ESG coverage than the currently confirmed route set.

Fix: Use the confirmed routes above as current truth and treat wider ESG ideas as future or adjacent scope unless the screen is present.
